- There are known compatability issues between USR and Rockwell-based
- modems (Zoom and Hayes being most common). Specifically, USR doesn't
- support some V.42 extensions used by Rockwell. Predictably, the
- USR_Modems Fido is full of "we're right and you're wrong" stuff, but
- it may help to force NMP error correction instead of V.42, using
- whatever AT command the USR uses for the purpose.
-
- IMO as the purpose of a modem is to connect to other modems, this
- compatability issue stunts product functionality, irrespective of who
- is "right". Similarly, USR's Class 2.0 fax may be the correct
- standard, but most fax gear is based on the looser Class 2 anyway.
- Best bet for faxing is to use Class 1 with 9600 bps maximum speed.
